Antique Romanian raw silk head dress, cocoon silk peasant scarf, marama de borangic - no. 2
Antique dated most probably 70 - 100 years ago, Romanian traditional head dress, scarf. Hand woven and hand embroidered with cocoon silk thread, raw silk thread known in Romania as borangic. Beautiful embroidery (open work) on a fine raw silk.
Origin: Oltenia / Romania
Size: 270 cm x 57 cm or 106 x 22. 44 inches
The scarf is in poor to fair condition with the traces of the wear inherent for an item of this age. Many holes and small tears of the fine fabric. No reparation.
The color is white off.
It is very fine and delicate and in spite of the flaws I mentioned, it is a gorgeous head dress " marama ".
It is part of the Romanian costume from Oltenia, Muntenia and Moldova and it is worn only by married women.
