Hand made vintage Romanian man's coat from Gorj / Dolj - Oltenia costume

Created by the freeholders from Gorj who wanted to differ fromthe inhabitants of the neighbouring area, the Schiler costume impresses through a unique type of decorative design achieved by applying "barnas " and black silk " gaitane " against the white background of the coat made of rough homespun or Azuga frieze. This short braided peasant jacket is the most valuable garment in the male costume and is called mintean in Romanian. The ingenious design of the typical motifs: the snake, the spear, the snail, the frog snout in exuberant arabesques confer a special status to this garment which subsequently became the garment symbol of all the Oltenians.
